Blackjack

Blackjack is played using 6 or 8 traditional decks of 52 cards. Picture cards count as 10, other cards count as their face value, except the Ace, which counts as 1 or 11.

The House holds the bank and all players play against the House. The Dealer acts on behalf of the house.

The object of the game is to draw card(s) totaling 21 or close to, but not exceeding 21. The player wins with a point total greater than the Dealer’s.

The Dealer initially deals two cards to each player and one card for the House. All cards are dealt face up. The total of your initial two cards shall determine which options are available to you.

If your initial two cards are an Ace with any 10 or picture card, you have Blackjack and may not draw additional cards.

When the Dealer’s first card is an Ace, you have the option of taking “Insurance” against the Dealer making Blackjack.

If you don’t have Blackjack, you have the option to either draw additional cards (Hit) or stop drawing cards (Stand). You may stand on any initial two card total.

After all the players have completed their hands, the Dealer deals additional cards for the House. The Dealer must draw on 16 and stand on 17 or higher.

An optional “Blackjack Pairs” bet may be placed before receiving any cards and will win if both your initial two cards are of the same rank. The payout schedule is posted on each table.

TERMS USED IN BLACKJACK

  • Blackjack: A hand comprising an Ace with a 10 or any picture card with the first two initial cards dealt to the box. This is the highest hand and beats all others.
  • 21: Two (in the case of split Aces receiving a ten, or split tens receiving an Ace) or more cards that total 21. No more cards may be drawn on 21.
  • Soft Total: A hand that contains an Ace, where the Ace is counted as 11 (not applicable to 21).
  • Hard Total: A hand in which any Aces must be counted as 1.
  • Hit: To draw cards.
  • Stand / Stay: The decision to draw no further cards.
  • Push / Stand off: The player has the same point count as the Dealer. Neither wins.
  • Split: Any two initial cards of identical value may be split into two different hands. An additional bet, exactly equal to the first, must be placed for the “new” hand. No hand may be split more than thrice (forming a total of 4 hands). Each hand must be completed before any cards may be dealt to the other split hand(s). Aces may only be split once, with each Ace receiving only one card.
  • Doubling or Double Down: A player may elect to double any two cards (except Blackjack and 21) only prior to receiving a third card to his/her hand. An additional bet, exactly equal to the original bet must be placed and only one additional card shall be dealt.
  • Insurance: When the Dealer’s first card is an Ace, the player may make an additional wager to protect his/her initial bet against the Dealer’s possible Blackjack. Insurance must be placed prior to any player making any decisions. If the Dealer makes Blackjack, the players’ initial bet will lose (or stand off, if the player’s hand is a Blackjack) and the insurance bet will be paid 2 to 1. If the Dealer does not make Blackjack, the insurance bet loses and the game proceeds.
  • Even Money: When the Dealer’s card is an Ace and the player has Blackjack, the player may request payment of 1 to 1, immediately after receiving the initial two cards and prior to any player drawing a third card.
  • Too many / Bust: If cards are drawn causing the hard point total to exceed 21, your hand loses.
  • In order to prevent any misunderstanding or errors, it is required that ALL players indicate their decisions by means of Hand Signals.
  • A HIT is indicated by extending the forefinger and pointing at the table in a clearly visible motion. When STANDing, the decision to draw no further cards is indicated by a slight horizontal motion with the open hand, palm down.

IMPORTANT RULES IN BLACKJACK

  • Players are responsible for the addition of their cards.
  • The Dealer shall only act on hand signals.
  • The Dealer must stand on 17 and must draw on 16.
  • Up to three players may bet on each box.
  • A player may bet on as many boxes as he/she wishes. In the event there are insufficient boxes available to other players, he/she may be asked to give up these boxes, in favour of the other players. In such a case, the player may retain control of one box.
  • A card drawn in error to the Dealer’s completed hand shall be discarded if the card has been exposed. If the card is not exposed, it shall be used as the burn card of the new game.
  • A card dealt in error mid-game shall be used as though it were the next card in the shoe.
  • If an error of card placement occurs in the initial deal (before all players receive 2 cards each), the hand shall be reconstructed.
